G’day friends. Whether you’re in Tammin or Tamworth, Timaru or Timbuktu, I sincerely hope that life is on the improve after the disruptions of COVID-19. Let’s hope we’ve seen the worst of it and that 2021 is better in every respect.
In July just gone, I somewhat ambitiously planned to load up the trusty, rusty chariot with books and drive across the Nullarbor into footy’s heartland, Melbourne. The idea was to promote Fitzroy’s Fabulous Century: The 100 Greatest Victories, 1897-1996 at Fitzroy Reds’ games in the Victorian Amateur Football Association and supply copies to the Fitzroy-Brisbane Lions Historical Society, local bookshops and libraries. However, well-documented circumstances put the kybosh on that plan, meaning I have plenty of copies of Fitzroy’s Fabulous Century literally jumping out of their skins (and cardboard boxes) to find a new home.
Likewise, I have half a houseful of Dreamer, Drifter, Drunk, a book written about a time in my life when I was more Major Disaster than the current Captain Sensible. I’ll be the first to admit I’m no Ernest Hemingway – but good, old Ernie certainly wasn’t Pete Carter.

If you’re someone who enjoys football (VFL/AFL) history or is/was a bit of a scallywag, then these books are for you. Individual copies of Fitzroy’s Fabulous Century and Dreamer, Drifter, Drunk cost $25 and $15, respectively. I also have two other offers which may appeal:
- Fitzroy Dreamer Package (one copy of each book) for $35
- Fitzroy Dreamer Mega Deal (two copies of Fitzroy and one Dreamer) for $45
All prices include postage. Purchases can be made through the www.fitzroypete.com.au checkout (Pete’s Xmas Specials) using PayPal, or you can email fitzroypete@yahoo.com.au for Mr Smudge Books’ bank account details.
Many thanks to those who’ve previously purchased one or both books and thank you to all future buyers (he says optimistically).
